Saskatchewan Rowing Team

Saskatchewan Rowers Excel at RCA National Rowing Championships and Canada Cup

Saskatchewan rowers competed at the RCA NRCs and Canada Cup regattas from September 26-29. A total of 8 athletes competed in four different events, as well as a crew that competed in the Canada Cup event. In the Junior Women's 1x event, Lily Jedlic (Regina RC) raced to a Bronze medal finish, with Lauren Matai (Saskatoon RC) and Aida Lissel-DeCorby (Saskatoon RC) both finishing behind in 4th and 5th respectively. Elana Gelineau (Saskatoon RC) also competed in the event placing 21st overall.

Matthew Johner and Johnathan McLeod (Saskatoon RC) continued to build on their success from WCSG in the Men's Junior 2- event, placing Silver overall. This was a major feat for the crew as the last time a medal was won in this event by Saskatchewan was in 2006.

In the Senior events, Sam Seshadri competed for his first time with Saskatchewan in the U23 Lightweight Men's 1x, placing 9th overall. Larissa Werbicki (Saskatoon RC) represented the province in the Senior Women's 2- with her partner from Alberta. The crew raced well and finished 9th overall.

Saskatchewan also shone at the Canada Cup regatta where rowers Aida Lissel-DeCorby, Lauren Matai, Lily Jedlic, and Elana Gelineau came together to row the Junior Women's 4x, ultimately winning Gold in the event. With all of the success of our Saskatchewan athletes, for the first time since NRCs started, the province won the Efficiency Award.
