Canada Summer Games
Niagara 2022 Results
Team Saskatchewan rowers from Lloydminster, Regina, and Saskatoon took to the Royal Canadian Henley Course to compete against 10 other provinces in the 2022 Canada Summer Games Regatta. It was a long, hot, and difficult summer of training for the crews, but ultimately everything paid off for our rowers!
After the second day of qualifications, Saskatchewan crews had made an A Final in every boat class! On the first day of finals, the day started off strong with Pepper Howe (Saskatoon RC) winning a bronze in the Women’s Single. Just 90 minutes later Pepper would get back in the Women’s Quad with crewmates Lauren Matai (Saskatoon RC), Megan Kish (Saskatoon RC), and Shelby Lane (Lloydminster RC), racing a strong middle 1000m, clinching the silver medal over Team BC. Other crews that raced the first day of finals included the Women’s Pair, Men’s Pair, Women’s Lightweight Double, Men’s Quad, and Men’s Eight with Coxswain (see breakdown of results below).
Day 2 of finals brought in even more success for Saskatchewan rowers. The morning was like deja vu, with Connor Dodds (Regina RC) winning bronze in the Men’s Single. Teammates Johnathan McLeod (Saskatoon RC) and Grayson Laycock (Saskatoon RC) followed up with a bronze in the Men’s 2x (this crew doubled as the Men’s Lightweight Double as well). The day wrapped up with a massive win in the Women’s Eight with Coxswain. The Saskatchewan crew led the Alberta crew from start to finish, ultimately overcoming their prairie rival by 0.18 seconds at the finish for a bronze medal finish. Elsa Lissel-DeCorby (Saskatoon RC) did an outstanding job keeping the crew focused and calm as the coxswain. The crew consisted also of: Megan Kish, Shelby Lane, Ellen Marion (Regina RC), Pepper Howe, Brooklyn Schwab (Regina RC), Daya Wilde (Saskatoon RC), Lauren Matai and Mya Kelln (Saskatoon RC).
Team Sask Rowers won 5 medals collectively, improving on the 2017 results of 2 medals. This is also the first time since the Regina 2009 Canada Games that a Saskatchewan crew has won a medal in the Eight with Coxswain event!
A big congratulations to all of our Team Sask rowers and the hard work they put in to being the best on the day.
