Indoor rowing is a fantastic strength training, cardiovascular building and fun activity for youth from ages 10 and up.
The Indoor Rowing School Programs involves training on an indoor rowing machine, known as an ergometer. The school indoor sessions are designed for grades 6-12 and include an introduction to rowing, and a focus on technique and skill development. And we always have a some fun with class relays and challenges! Each school session can last between 40-55 minutes or the length of time that your physical education classes last. We supply all equipment which includes 10 rowing machines that we set up in your school gymnasium. Classes can accommodate up to 30 students, as we break the classes into two or three person groups. While some are rowing, others may be doing core or other fun challenges. The cost to run these school sessions is $5/student with a minimum of $60/class. We have coaches who can come to your school for multiple sessions and we encourage you to book each class at least twice so they can get a good feel for the sport. COMMUNITY ADULT LEARN TO ROW Maximum 10 people While we are in your community, we also offer adult indoor Learn to Rows. Spark Ideas Grant - Indoor Rowing School Nutana
Thank you so much for including our students in the Indoor Rowing program. As specialized programs supporting students with a range of learning, behavioural, and mental health challenges, it was truly meaningful to see the level of engagement this opportunity inspired. Participation was remarkably high, even from those who often resist physical activity or structured routines. We had students asked to row outside of designated times, commenting on how much they enjoyed the rhythm and simplicity of the movement, and how it helped them clear their minds, while achieving cardio exercise. From a mental wellness perspective, rowing has been an excellent fit for our students. The steady rhythm and bilateral motion promote regulation and focus, while the clear cause-and-effect feedback (effort equals movement) helps reinforce a sense of control and achievement. It’s low impact, accessible, and can be both solitary and social, which makes it ideal for students managing anxiety, sensory sensitivity, or self-regulation challenges. We would have loved to experience time on the water, but even indoors, the benefits were evident. I’m hopeful our school can eventually purchase a few rowing machines so we can continue offering this as a wellness option throughout the year. Thank you again for bringing such an inclusive and engaging program to our students. Jane Popescul RISE, Nutana Collegiate |
