RCA MEMBER UPDATE
GOVERNMENT OF SASKATCHEWAN PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER SEPTEMBER 22, 2021
RCA MEMBER UPDATE
June 4, 2021
Dear SRA membership,
As you know, you were told in electronic correspondence of May 30, 2021 that we were waiting for further information from the government’s Business Response Team regarding whether we can return to crew rowing.
Today we received confirmation that we are able to row in crew boats starting immediately.
Effectively this takes us to Level 5 of the Covid 19 training status found at the link on our website at Rowing and the Coronavirus (COVID-19) - SASKATCHEWAN ROWING (saskrowing.ca). Please ensure that you continue to observe all other measures related to the Off water and Indoor parameters as found on this website.
Clubs are free to use more restrictive measures if they wish. For instance, on the government’s website regarding sports activities re-starting (Sports and Activities Guidelines | Guidelines for the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan | Government of Saskatchewan), you will read under Section 3: Outdoor Individual Non-Contact Sports that one should “Consider wearing a mask while you play if you can't maintain two metres of physical distance.” So while this is not a directive (and yes, I know that crew boats would be considered a team sport), it seems to me to make sense that wearing a mask in a crew boat with others not from your household is consistent with the rest of the guidelines. Therefore, I strongly urge clubs to consider that restriction on crew rowing until we reach Stage 3 of the province’s re-opening plan when over 70% of the province’s population over the age of 12 has received their first vaccination.
And obviously, please consider getting your vaccination(s) as soon as they are available to you. It’s for your own good and that of your friends and family.
If you have any questions, please address them in the first instance to Nicole Golden, Director of Operations.
Thanks for your attention to this.
Sincerely yours,
Bryan Hillis
President
